Martha Stewart’s Dreamers into Doers 2008

May 7, 2008 by Tracey Thompson

Martha Stewart is searching for women who have taken their dreams and made something far greater from them.  The 2nd Annual Dreamers into Doers contest has begun and they are looking for women who have taken their hobbies and made them into careers.

Martha Stewart started out with a catering business, catered the right parties, met the right person who said, “You should write a book.”  Entertaining was published and the Domestic Diva and her empire was born.

You have until July 11, 2008 to submit an essay about yourself or a woman you know and in 250 words or less tell how they made a dream or hobby into a flourishing career.  Feel free to include photographs of the project or business.  The grand prize winner will receive $10,000, vacations for a lifetime and a trip to New York City to be a guest on the Martha Stewart show.

I can’t believe how difficult it is to write about my passion in 250 words! I have cut down my original draft 3 times & I’m down to 300 words…will I automatically be disqualified?

When I discussed this with someone they pointed out that
when Mark Twain was asked to write 2 pages he said “it would be easier to write 2o pages” this made me feel better since I eas in good company!

  2. Aline Guzzo says:

Why is the Dreamers to Doers only for women. My sons have done so much even after they were told in high school that they were not college material. They graduated from college and one even got his MBA. Paul writes for La Gazetta a weekly in Tampa and Peter works for Tampa Digital. They also created a small production company. Paul writes all the scripts and tPeter is the videographer. Both have done so much for their community that they were just honored by their local Chamber of Commerce. They also have a film review to show independent films. My sons do not charge to show the films. Paul and Peter also used the money raised from one of their premiers to benefit the Gasparillo Film Festival. they did not accept one penny.

  3. I agree that it would be nice to see this being a gender blind opportunity, but this is about women impulating Martha. Maybe one day they will open it up.

  4. I could never consolidate into 250 words, that takes some major talent and a lot of time.
