Mary Emma’s Quilt Memories – Finding Nanny’s Quilt

(I often encourage quilters to write their quilting memories, in a journal, in a scrapbook, in a blog, in a quilt log. Although I’ve written quilting memories, I’ve never set them down in any detail. If I start a journal here, I can share them with my readers, too.)
I was thrilled when I discovered my mother had saved the quilt that once covered my bed when I was a child and teenager. I thought it was too worn to save and didn’t consider it worth taking with me when I married and left home.
However, when I had to clean the old farmhouse where I grew up (prior to selling it after Mother developed Alzheimer’s), I found my quilt. Mother had folded it and placed it on a shelf in a closet. There it had remained for many years.
I described this quilt, of 4-Patch design, in my Quilt Patch of the Week.
How pleased I am now that for some reason Mother saved it.
How about sharing your memories and preserving them for your quilting heritage?

I wish my parents would have saved more of my grandmother’s quilts. I do have one that is very tattered and torn but I still use it because I can still feel her love radiating from it. If I ever need a hug I just wrap that quilt around my shoulders.
I’m just learning to quilt, so I’m sure I’ll have many memories for a book….or blog…..or journal, whatever!
I am loving Blogtoberfest! It’s so fun to enter for surprises!
I am not talented enough to make one, but those quilts sure are breathtaking!
My quilt that my Mom made is in the trunk of my car. Always there for emergencies or a quick picnic in the park! My gramma’s butterfly applique quilt is worn and tattered but still displayed on my daughters top bunk! Thanks!!
Who doesn’t love a great surprise?
enter me!
In my family my Nana made quilts for each newborn baby and now my Mom is doing the same thing for my children, her grandchildren.
My oldest sister is a mother of 10 and she finds time to make beautiful quilts. I hope I win
PLEASE COUNT ME IN ON THIS AWESOME GIVEAWAY
I really like this idea. I have several old quilts and crocheted throws from my great grandmothers. How sad it would be for my children to throw them out someday after my death, not remembering the heritage to them.
Thank you for helping me to protect our family’s heritage.
My grandmother who passed away 12 years ago had a lovely quilt that I now cherish.
thanks for the contest
Mother loved to quilt. All her children have her quilts.
Blogtoberfest is so much fun!
My mom is a big quilter – wish I was!
My mother and grandmother always hand quilted but with a full time job and children I never had the time. But I have machine quilted queen and king sized quilts for my daughters and numerous baby quilts for my grandchildren.
I would love to win a surprise!
Cute story

I’d love to learn to quilt. I have seen how you can take your children’s baby clothes/blankets and create a quilt….I’d love to do that.

I love having a quilt my great grandmother made.
Not yet a quilter, but would love to learn!
i am curious now…what is it?
That was a wonderful surprise for you to find
My aunt is an amazing quilter. I have picked up a few tips from her. Thanks for the chance!
I don’t quilt right now, but my mother has started a great tradition of quilting using our old tshirts. It’s really cool!
My grandmother saved scraps from favorite articles of clothing and made a “memories” quilt with them. It was neat to look at that quilt and be flooded with warm memories of me wearing that favorite dress to grade school, or Mom wearing that apron as she made homemade biscuits… a great tradition that needs to be brought back.
i’d love to start quilting, it would be a good hobby!
quilts are sooooooooo beautiful
