Maryland parents: Heads up

June 26, 2008 by Marijke Durning, RN

The children’s car seat laws in Maryland are getting tougher this coming Monday, June 30.

In order to keep children safer in motor vehicles, the law in Maryland will require that children use safety seats until they turn 8 years old, weigh 65 pounds or reach 4-foot-9. According to safety advocates, the height requirement is a major safety change since shorter children are not tall enough for the seatbelts that are designed for adults. Improper use of seatbelts can lead to severe injury, even death.
