If you’re worried that you don’t speak the language, the Me No Speak books may be just what you need for your travels.
Offering up an additional communication tool, these book allow you to point to pictures of every day things, helping you avoid embarrassment of mispronunciation. Or, of a mispronunciation that has you getting something other than what you need.
While I recommend that travelers make an effort to learn at least a few phrases in the language of the country they’ll be visiting, this is a good fall back option.
Pocket size, 50 pages, and available for Japan, China and Thailand. Buy them from Flight 001, a great travel store.

Just found your blog, and looks great! As a international airline pilot, on the road 18 days a month, I’m always on the lookout for the best travel products.
In the same vein as the “Me No Speak,” check out the book, “Point It” from the Museum of Modern Art. Yeah, an odd source, but a fantastic item. It has 1200 photos of items from every conceivable category. There’s no local language text like “Me No Speak,” but I’ve used mine in several countries.

I LOVE the MoMA stores — they have really fun stuff!
Will go check out this book. Thanks for leaving such a great idea.
What a great product idea, seems so simple.
Very simple. And it keeps travelers from having to act out things — with the book you can just point.
