Measles Making a Comeback
The news is reporting that there have been more measles cases this year than in recent years. They are attributing the rise to parents not getting their kids vaccinated.
It’s believed parents are avoiding vaccinating because of the rise in autism.
I got both my kids vaccinated because it was the thing to do and I thought it was the best thing for my kids.
I have to wonder though, just why more people are growing away from vaccinations?
Discussion anyone?
This happens to be one of those topics I know so very little about.

I am extremely fortunate to never have had issues with vaccinations with my son, but it definitely scares me.
I’ve read more about autism and the link to vaccines lately, mainly because of Jenny McCarthy. She always played such a ditz but she is really a very smart woman, and I find what she has to say very interesting. I’m not quoting here because I can’t remember the exact words… but she said something along the lines of, not every kid can handle penicillin, not every kid has the same immune system. Why do we assume that the same vaccination is okay for every child? She believes that children should be tested to determine dosages, and whether their bodies can handle the vaccinations, and I can’t say that I disagree with her. She’s absolutely right… the same vaccination is used for every child, without testing, without any data to backup whether every child can handle it.
What disgusts me the most about this is that the CDC and Pediatric Association (sorry can’t remember the acronym for that one) won’t listen to them. One of my friends is pregnant, and I told her yesterday… when it comes to your child, you may not have a phD, but you know your child. And if a pediatrician won’t listen to you, get a new one! And this doesn’t just apply to doctors, but schools, and everywhere else too – you are your child’s advocate! Now obviously there are exceptions to this – the crazy mothers who take their child in every week because they’re so over the top worried about everything. But for a down to earth, common sense mom to say “My child was a regular, normal child, he got vaccinated, and SOMETHING happened,” and to be ignored isn’t right.
The fact is, something is happening. Vaccinations are a wonderful thing, they absolutely should be done. It scares me to know that some of the children in my son’s school aren’t vaccinated, and what he can be exposed to because of it. But not every child is the same. Maybe some children just can’t handle the vaccine the same as others. But we would never know because they’re never tested, and the vaccines are one-size-fits-all for every child.
