A bunionectomy, or removal of a bunion from your foot, can be quite painful. It’s one of those surgeries that you need to have done because of the pain and discomfort the bunion causes – but you wonder for a few days after if the surgery was worth it.
In most cases, yes, the pain from the surgery – although intense for some people – does fade and the results are a much more comfortable foot afterwards. However, the pain does need to be addressed so researchers have been looking at a medication called tapentadol. According to the findings of a clinical trial of tapentadol immediate release (IR) tablets, patients who received 50 mg, 75 mg, or 100 mg of tapentadol reported significant relief from acute pain after undergoing a bunionectomy.
Other good news is that the medication didn’t seem to cause many stomach upsets as pain relievers can do.
