Medicine and Health Blogs You Can Trust

December 13, 2005 by Lei

Thanks to Darren Rowse at ProBlogger, the full disclosure “meme” that I tried to introduce early in the life of Genetics and Health is finally catching on. Not only is it a fun way to know more about the motivations of medical and health bloggers, it should also help us gain confidence in them and the blogs they write.

Here are the medical and health blogs (or pretty much all respectable blogs) that have participated thus far. If you’ve answered the NIH/NICCAM questions too, leave a comment here and I’ll add you to the honor roll.

Dr. O of Medgadget also suggested getting certified by the Health On the Net Foundation under their Code of Conduct. And Clinical Cases and Images has more about the credibility of medical and health blogs.

    Dr. Lei -

I answered the ten questions for medical bloggers – all of my deep, dark secrets have been revealed, and I’ve discovered I’m pretty boring… :)

  4. Rita: Please call me Hsien! I’m glad you’ve revealed all. Boring is relative, though! ;)

  8. Liz Ditz says:

I’m not a medblogger, but I do write about learning disabilities, effective treatments and approaches, ineffective treatments and approaches, and LD quackery.

Here’s my post and links for the blog reliability question.

  10. I think this is a great idea. I don’t write about medical issues intentionally, but I do write about using digital resources to do research on genetic diseases and other areas of biology.

  12. Thanks so much for the honor! I have put a link to your healthcare.wurk site on my links page. I will also put one to Genetics and Health. Thanks for featuring me!

  13. NPs Save Lives: Thanks! I’m glad you took the time to answer the questions. It’s fun getting to know who the bloggers are as well as knowing their motivation.

It’s maybe too late, but I’ve seen your posts about health blogs credibility and decided to answer questions about my website. While I don’t consider my blog to be purely a health blog, I regularly blog about health topics. Here is my post with answers:

  15. Paul: It’s never too late! I’m actually going to create a permanent page for this and put it up in my sidebar right now. You’ll be on the list. :)

  1. [...] If you answer these questions for your blog, let me know via comments, trackbacks, or e-mail so I can add you to the honor roll. [...]

  2. [...] Because Hsien Hsien Lei couldn’t trust weblogs this was bad for his health (hartbeatings and high bloodpressure). That’s why Hsien Hsien Lei decided to introduce the ten questions of NIH to get more clearance about medical weblogs en their owners. Offcourse he also answered the questions himself. Now he has made a short list of medical weblogs who you at least can trust! From that moment on the health of the American weblogger is getting better. [...]

  3. [...] I hope this has been helpful to you in some way. If you are interested in seeing other sites who have participated in Dr. Lei’s web site disclosure questionaire, you can find them here. [...]
