Meeting The Solar Bike

When you say solar as a source of power for a vehicle, you would often think that it would really go slow. But come to think of it, people have been able to create better variations of solar-powered vehicles. One of these is the solar bike and what is different about this one is the fact that it can really make you ride quite that fast.

This was actually a creation of the Solar Bike Club of the University of Iowa. This club is made up of engineering students and they had to make use of whatever materials were available. The bike is actually surrounded by an “aerodynamic yellow fiberglass” and that is around nine feet in length. Now that “aerodynamic yellow fiberglass” has been given solar panels and that is where the power of the sun is honed.

In a report, Daniel Rogge, the captain of the club, declared, “You can’t just go buy one from Wal-Mart and copy the design. There is a lot of physics and steering geometry involved”
