Earlier today I wrote about how the 12 winners of the Mental Health America 2008 Media Awards will be honored tomorrow during a luncheon at Mental Health America’s Inaugural Mental Health Promotion and Prevention Summit in Washington, D.C.
Well, I just found out that Mental Health America has also honored Congressman Jim Ramstad (R-Minn.) with the Career Achievement Award yesterday to kick off the Capitol Hill Advocacy Day of Mental Health America’s Annual Conference and Inaugural Promotion and Prevention Summit.
What has Ramstad done in the world of mental health to deserve the Career Achievement Award?
According to Mental Health America, Ramstad:
“[...] has championed the cause of parity for over a decade.”
is a “[...] cosponsor of the Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act [...]”
“[...] embarked on a nationwide tour through the Campaign to Insure Mental Health and Addiction Equity [...]”
“[...] co-founded two bipartisan congressional caucuses whose mission is to educate members of Congress about substance abuse issues: the Addiction, Treatment, and Recovery (ART) Caucus and the Caucus on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.”
He sounds pretty deserving to me.
Ramstad entered the House of Representatives in 1990 and is retiring from Congress at the end of 2008, so let’s congratulate him on nearly two decades of excellent mental health advocacy!
