Miley Cryus To Promote Safe Sex
I was watching the national news last night when I heard a story about how Lifestyles Condoms offered Miley Cyrus one million dollars to be their spokesperson. That’s right, a company that makes condoms claims they asked a 15-year-old girl to represent them. Miley’s reps says they have not received such an offer and would not entertain the idea if they had.
Does it make sense to have a child be a spokesperson for a company that makes products used during sex? According to the company’s VP of marketing, it does. She says, “Pop culture proves that teens are more ready than ever to discuss the subject of sex. We believe that Miley is both influential and relatable to this afflicted set — and is the obvious choice to get the message of safe sex out to teens across America.”
On one had it makes sense to have a wholesome (although calling Miley wholesome has been up for debate recently) girl promote safe sex. And teenagers may relate to somebody like Miley more than some unknown actress in her twenties. The fact of the matter is there are some 15-year-olds having sex and they need role models they look up to and trust to help guide them. But is it appropriate? Surely there is a better way to reach these young girls rather than having a child as a condom spokesperson. Plus Miley has said she’s not planning on having sex until marriage so it really doesn’t make sense for her to then promote safe sex. It makes more sense for her to stand for abstinence.
However, in the end this may be less about promoting safe sex and more about creative advertising. What better way to bring some publicity your way than telling news sources you’ve asked a squeaky clean Disney figure to peddle your condoms? Maybe Lifestyles is just looking to gain some market share.

Not at all appropriate. Anyone having sex with a girl miley’s age is committing statutory rape in most if not all states. That’s a message you don’t want to endorse. At least get a seventeen year old, if you must use a teen.
