Misleading Nutrisystem Commercials

I’m a little irked by the Nutrisystem commericals that  I’ve seen lately. I like Marie Osmond and damn she looks good. To quote her from the commercial and the ad on the website :

“I went on a Nutrisystem and lost 40 pounds..”

I’m sure the Nutrisystem worked and helped her. It’s quite obvious. But what’s missing on that commercial is the fact that she also spent months of training for Dancing With The Stars.

I think if you’re going to promote some Diet program, you MUST add the fact that diet alone didn’t help you reach your goal. And that’s the truth. Exercise is a must. Marie Osmond’s exercise was training for Dancing With The Stars.

I would love that bit added on the commercial and on the website. Upclose and right away, not some little disclaimer that nobody could read. Or worse, make us all all think that Nutrisystem alone did everything without the help of physical activity. That’s misleading!

The same with the Nutrisystem commercials with Jillian Barbarie. She harps how she lost 41 pounds, and they show the before photo where she was…PREGNANT – yeah…..she had a baby. A lot of people can claim they lost weight, after they had a kid.

EXACTLY. Marie lost the weight by Dancing on the show “with the Stars” and afterwards does a commercial for Nutrisystem. Not fair advertising. Not with Jillian either. At least on Jenny Craig, you get to see the BEFORE, DURING and after… I remember seeing “Topanga” from t.v. doing a Nutrisystem commercial AFTER as well. It is very misleading, bordering on lies. Yes, the spokespersons look good, but who knows how they lost the weight BEFORE they did the commercials?

  3. Melis says:

I just saw this commercial myself and it made me laugh. The before was pregnancy and after is now. I’ve also heard of weight loss companies having the spokesperson GAIN weight and switch the Gain to Before and the Before to After.

  4. Krisi says:

Believe it or not, I went on Nutrisystem, and I too lost 50 lbs- and I didn’t exercise a stitch. I still lost the weight simply by being on the diet. I know first hand that every claim in the Nutrisystem commercials are correct. You, however, can believe what you want. Those commercials are not making any false claims… I went from 190lbs to 140lbs with next to no exercise. I was too busy going back to school.

  5. DI says:

Nutrisystem does work, I have personally in the past lost 70+ pounds on it. I also have a friend that lost 92+ pounds not exercising as she is in a wheelchair and unable to exercise. I also personally know some of the people in the new commercials and they have lost the 100 pounds and more.

  6. NH says:

Marie was fat on Dancing with the Stars. She started the diet AFTER THAT.

Ok, here’s the scoop from our angle…it’s a scam. We fell for it…ordered the “lock in for a year price” and our price was raised over 60.00 the second month. We spoke with a very young rep who just could not understand our frustration. It’s simple, you lie to me, you lose my business. It’s a shame because we would have been loyal customers and bragged all over the internet vs the opposite. The food was bad, but we would have tolerated it….but the lies are too bitter to take. I was on Nutrisystem for 6 months, lost about 50 pounds and didn’t exercise. The price remained the same, the food was great. I don’t feel like anyone lied.

Never, did I say NEVER, have I seen any one product SO advertised on tv, and
pretty much most of the channels! Something seems amiss to me, plus I
cannot understand how a company could run so much of its budget for tv ads.
That too seems amiss, unless the tv stations themselves have a pony in the race! Why should I care? It’s like… BIG-TIME BRAINWASHING, and I’m sick & tired of their eternal lies that “offer ends soon” ! Right! In our dreams!!!
