Mistaken Medication Takin’

Kadi took her son’s Risperdal by mistake; don’t judge, moms of special needs kids are each a heartbeat away from such an action.

I was getting the kids into bed and thinking about what I needed to get done, as I grabbed the medication out of the cabinet. I filled a glass with water, still thinking about my to-do list and without realizing what I was doing, popped the pill into my own mouth and downed it with a big gulp of water.

Now tell me you’ve never done that with hubby’s aspirin or the kids’ vitamins? (If you deny it, I won’t believe you anyway.)

So what happened to Kadi? Well, she has a rough night…

I literally panicked and called the pharmacist. She told me not to worry, unless I had any of the five symptoms she described. “Holy hell…I’m supposed to just wait and see if I have heart palpitations? Are you serious? Shouldn’t I just go to the hospital just in case?” She assured me that I would probably not have any problem. Probably? The rest of the night, I sat waiting for the irregular heartbeat to start. I waited for my ultimate doom. I put my shoes on and kept the phone handy to call 911.

But her upset & freakish preparations weren’t needed; as the pharmacist said, she was fine. If you don’t believe me, check out her blog — she’s still posting away.
