“Mom, am I fat?” The words hit you with a thud. And these days, they’re coming earlier in a child’s life. I haven’t heard them yet (thank God) from my 2-year-old daughter, Toby. But I’m doing everything in my power to prevent her from ever asking that question.”

I think the key to this is to plan your meals carefully. We brought in the healthiest foods we could afford and then built our meals around them. Desserts were served every night, but most of the time, they were healthy too. The kids grew up not knowing the difference.

Non healthy desserts were baked on Fridays and then enjoyed only on the weekends. By Monday, they would be gone and then it was back to the healthy desserts. It worked for us.

Any little tricks to share?
