Mommy Fog – Another Dimension in the Fog Saga

I have been way off on the blogging schedule lately, and so now I have a little apology to make. A big sorry to Kerri, as I kind of forgot to do this weeks brain fog interview. Kerri blogs over at Play Library…if you are a mom (or even if you aren’t) check out her site, it’s pretty cool.
Kerri suffers from the Multi Tasking Mommy Fog, with perhaps a little ADD on the side (or maybe that’s just her husband
). This is what Kerri has said about her problem with the fog:
I walk into a room (and it can be less than 30 seconds later), and I forget why I’m there. Occasionally, it never does come back to me. Ah well…
Often the fogginess is due to trying to accomplish too many things at once. I’m often burning pancakes because I’m trying to multi-task. A timer could surely help in that area, but then I’d have to remember to turn it on, too.
Hmm is there a way we could get a reminder to turn on the timer???? Perhaps a little voice to remind you to turn it on….a certain bald man, perhaps???
And, yeah, mom brain. That’s one that doesn’t get nearly enough attention in those “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” books!!! Seriously, I now have so much sympathy for those parents who go through 5 names before they get to the one of the child they’re addressing…because I’ve become one of them! Even our friends’ kids’ names sometimes get in there before I get to my own kids’ names!
Seriously, I could write a book if I could remember everything.
Will you send me a copy when you finally get that book finished, I could use some new ideas on battling the brain fog.
As far as what to do, I make lists. I bought some dry-erase magnets for the fridge to make lists of what I have to take to different events throughout the week. Also, to make lists of who I need to call, or what appointments are coming up. Otherwise, I forget everything I’m scheduled to do. The lists don’t get lost in piles that way, and remembering to be near the fridge is not usually a problem.
Lists are fantastic…and are definitely my go to source for battling the fog. I love the idea of dry erase magnets, on the fridge. Maybe I could use them to help me to eat healthfully.
Thanks for sharing, Kerri. I really like your ideas.

Lists!
I couldn’t survive without my lists – even if I constantly forget to write things on the list!
We have a whiteboard in the kitchen and a calender with big squares on the pantry door. Jobs have to be written on the board and appointments on the calendar or I’ll forget them. Those are the only places I can be even vaguely relied upon to check.
Hi Kerry,
I am going to assume that you are not the Kerri that I wrote about
Lists are great, and I use them all the time….however I keep losing them.
I do love the calender feature that google has though, and I use it all of the time.
No, I’m a different Kerry. I didn’t think it was that common a name, but I’ve been seeing it a lot around the net lately.
I also quite like the calendar/reminder function in Outlook, but I have to be around the computer to hear it beep at me. I use it as a reminder to take my pills in the morning, since I check my mail around the same time and the reminder keeps coming back at me until I dismiss it. But it doesn’t work so well for every day things and the noticeboard is great for that.
That’s the trick, isn’t it.
To remind yourself, to check the calender.
Sounds like you have found a system that works for you
Thanks, Laura.
Bald Man keeps trying to get me to use the Google calendar, but it’s about as useless to me as an alarm clock. Anything that can be so quickly dismissed when I’m half asleep or when I’ve come to the computer to do something else is not much more than just an annoyance to me! Thus, the fridge magnets. They’re ever present for reminding me of what I need to get at the store or who I need to call, etc. And they’re always available for a quick jotting. Much harder for me to lose them.
A quick transfer to the actual paper grocery list on the way out the door works for me.
Kerri,
I really love the fridge magnet idea, I will definitely have to get me some of those.
I hear you about the annoyance thing…it really bugs me when there is someone always behind me, reminding me to do something. Usually I need the reminding…but I can’t stand it when someone is there to do it. This is the reason why I like the little reminders of my calendar features.
They come sans annoying people.
Not to say that Bald Man is annoying…I find him rather charming
