What is having your dream home built in 8 hours worth?
When you first see the Livinghome by Ray Kappe you understand where the mission statement “Nature made. Factory built.” came from. The cedar framed siding reminds you of the trees, and the windows make you wonder what the outside looks like from within.
Livinghomes has made a concentrated effort to provide a home with the smallest footprint possible. Each home is made of modules. These modules can be removed or added depending on your needs. Giving you a home flexible enough to stay with you throughout your stages of life. Where as now, people sell and build a new home to move on to the next stage. Your footprint isn’t just determined by the size hole you put in the ground. It is also determined by the amount of energy consumed. These homes decrease your consumption by using dual flush toilets, passive solar heat, photovoltaic panels and a cistern to collect grey water to be used on the lawn.
Of course I am not doing this home any justice, go to the Livinghomes website. Take the tour hosted by a person that lives in this home. You’ll see, hear, and feel the love. They will admit:
“…our homes are moderately priced for the big cities and expensive elsewhere but we are absolutely committed to lowering our prices.”
Instead of building a “Mega-McMansion” to go with your “Uber-Granite” kitchen, use that money for a smaller, better designed, modern home that is healthy for you and the environment? So we come back to my original question:
“How much more per square foot would you pay to have a home built in 8 hours?” (a conservative average for new construction is $150/s.f.)
