More for a veggie burger?
Greetings from Oregon! Today I had lunch in Portland, at a pub called McMenamins. As it turns out, Portland has tons of dining options for vegetarians. After consulting Happy Cow, I kind of had my heart set on Pirate’s Tavern, a pirate-themed vegan restaurant. How awesome does that sound? Pirates and vegan food, together at last! But given the mixed reviews that the restaurant received on Happy Cow, I was a little wary about dragging my in-laws there. So I agreed to a more main-stream lunch option, instead.
Anyway, back to my lunch at McMenamins. Although I was pleased to see that veggie burgers were offered on the menu, I was surprised to see that they were charging $1.00 extra for the veggie burgers over the meat burgers. Aren’t veggie meals supposed to be less expensive? I had the hummus plate, instead. It was OK.

The +$1 for veggie burger (or turkey, often) is, sadly, standard as far as I know.
That sucks!
My wife works at the University of South Florida and a few weeks ago they held a staff appreciation tailgate before the USF-Louisville football game and they ONLY served veggie burgers! No real hamburgers! They had real hot dogs but that doesn’t count. I was appalled, I mean it’s football right??
So yeah as far as restaurants charging more for veggie burgers it doesn’t make sense as they should cost less. If they didn’t USF wouldn’t have served them in place of real burgers-the university has undergone budget cuts so they are nickel and diming whenever they can.
yeah, me and my sister go to McMenamins on occasion and are always so miffed we have to pay $1 extra for a veggie burger. they already cost $8 or something. it’s freakin’ ridiculous.
