More Seuss Trivia: Literacy, Children and Dr. Seuss

In May of 1954, Life magazine published a report addressing illiteracy in children. The report stated that children were having trouble to read because their books were… well, boring.

In response to the article, Dr. Seuss’ publisher asked the author to write a list of important words. Dr. Seuss then cut the list to 250 – which was thought to be the number of words a first grader could absorb at once.

Dr. Seuss went on to write a best seller using that list. Which best selling Seuss book was it?

I’d heard that The Cat in the Hat had 250 words but that could be gossip. I’m off to read the other Seuss posts.

Speaking of Dr.Seuss, my daughter took on another assignment today. Using the theme of Horton the Movie, she was to write about one of the characters in the story story. She is wriitng all about how Horton and Morton met.
