More Tips for Caregivers at Alzheimer’s Association

Along with the Summer 2006 Newsletter I receive from the Alzheimer’s Association was an enclosure giving information on caregiver care.  It listed “10 Symptoms of Caregiver Stress,” such as denial, anger, depression, sleeplessness, and health problems.

Also mentioned are nine “Ways to Reduce Caregiver Stress.”  Among these are knowing resources in your community, becoming educated about the disease, giving yourself credit for your accomplishments, and taking care of yourself.

Caring for your loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or other form of dementia becomes very stressful, whether in their home, your home, or overseeing it in a nursing home.  The more you can learn about the disease and how to keep your stress at a minimum becomes helpful to everyone.

Visit the Alzheimer’s Association site (www.alz.org ) for more information in these areas.
