Motivate Me Monday – That One Darn Drawer!

Do you have one drawer in your house that just drives you mad?! Every time you end up looking for something in it, you swear that you are going to clean it out…tomorrow. Then tomorrow becomes next week, nest week next month…you know the drill.

I am by nature organized, but I do the same thing. There are areas in my house that bug me and I always tell myself I will get to it later.

For this Motivate Me Monday, my challenge to you is to take that one drawer that really is a pain and organize it. First, define what the drawer is going to be used for. Is it just for the kids’ craft supplies? Or is it a drawer in your home office that needs to be designated the extra supplies drawer? Whatever it may be, before you clean it out, decide what its use is.

Then go through and and get rid of all the stuff that doesn’t belong there. For items that you want to keep, but don’t want in that drawer, put them in a little box to sort out later (man, there’s that later word again!). Like most drawers, there will probably be some items in there that you need to chunk.

Next, look at everything you have left over and decide what drawer organizing items would be best for that drawer. Please don’t forget to measure the drawer! This was a constant mistake that I would make all the time when I was just starting out. Measure, measure, measure! It will save you a lot of frustration.

Here are some example drawer organizers:
