The Lord of the Rings films have been named Britain’s favorite (or in Britain, favourite) children’s book adaptation besting out Harry Potter. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and crew came in second in the poll conducted by an online DVD film distributor.

Rounding out the top ten:

3, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

4, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

5, The Wizard of Oz

6, Mary Poppins

7, The Railway Children (tie)
7, The Snowman (tie)

9, Matilda

10, Alice in Wonderland

Sound about right? What would you have chosen?

I, for one, am devastated to not see The Little Princess or The Secret Garden.

I agree — The Little Princess should be on there. And the Secret Garden. I’m shocked Alice In Wonderland is not higher — although, I guess there is not a movie version as good as the book.

I would have said Little Women at the top of the list too.

I would have voted for the Lord of the Rings too.

  3. I also love ‘The Secret Garden’, and ‘The Snowman’ (but then, I am a snowman afficianado! LOL),
There was a brilliant adaptation of ‘The Wind in the Willows’ 15 or so years back. It was stop motion animation and was enchanting!
If you haven’t seen ‘Miss Potter’, then you really do need to- it’s delightful!
And Denholm Elliot narrated a luscious adaptation of ‘A Child’s Christmas in Wales’.
    Wonderful stuff!

  4. Kelly says:

Ooh, Little Women. I totally forgot about that – one of my favorites! I like the old adaptation best.

I agree with you all..but then, I dislike Harry Potter alot…LOTR and Narnia have been favorites of mine for centuries. :) Well, since fifth grade.
I agree with the addition of Little Princess and Secret Garden…AND Wind in the Willows, and Christmas in Wales..
But I normally do not like movies made from books- I prefer the book and the movies are always, nearly always , a let down.
