Movie Prompt

Recently my daughter and I were discussing films. I mentioned a movie I’d seen quite a while ago, some of it was a bit vague, but had enjoyed some of the scenes and ideas. The film was Smoke. One part of the film that left a real impression on me was the way the shop owner would take a photograph of the same street corner every day at the same time. Apparently he had done so for the last 40 years.

Maybe the number of years is incorrect. I did say some of it was hazy. But how much easier would it be to do this kind of thing with digital cameras, etc, today? You could incorporate this idea in your journal using digital images, your own sketches or word sketches. You could select a subject that will change ever so slowly over time, such as the street corner in the film. I suppose even self-portraits would work for this idea.

  1. This is an awesome idea. A few years ago, I took pictures of the view from my front door every month for a year. It is cool to see how things changed over just 1 year.

  2. Thanks for commenting, Heather. That sounds like a great project, too. It would be very easy to see the seasons change in the monthly photos. Thanks for sharing. ;-)
