Muscle Milk Light Review

musclemilklight.JPGI discovered the original Muscle Milk protein drink at my local gym while getting a smoothie. They had these ready-to-drink shakes in flavors like Vanilla, Chocolate and Mocha. On a whim, I decided to buy one and loved it.
The idea is that it will prevent muscle loss and optimize your body to burn fat based on a formula that is packed with vitamins – so it’s perfect if you’re working out with weights or cardio. However, the original formula does contain a lot of fat, making it higher in calories, so I gradually stopped drinking it.
But I recently saw Muscle Milk Light at GNC in four-packs, so I had to try it (I tried the “Chocolate Milk” kind).

The Taste

With much less fat, I was expecting the shake to taste chalky, but it’s rich and delicious. The consistency is creamy and smooth, and the chocolate milk taste really comes through.

The Nutrition

Calories – 160 (per 8.5 oz)
Fat – 5g
Sat. Fat – 1.5g
Cholesterol – 5 mg
Sodium – 210 mg
Net carbs – 8g
Sugars – 3g
Protein – 20g

So as you can see, this packs quite the protein punch without giving you lots of unneccessary sugars. Two thumbs up!

Curious. Would it be just as effective to take amino acids in capsule form? I found it easier to cope with than drinking milk-like substances when I was bodybuilding. Maybe I am confused? LOL

It probably would – I just like the shakes because of the taste (I love chocolate milk, but can’t have the sugar) as well as the energy for working out they provide.

  3. Something to remember… After a workout your body needs calories – you’ve just expended calories and your body is going to look to replace them.. The best form is carbs, but when your body can’t get it’s carbs, it will just take protein and break it down into them.

Yes, I heard that protein can break down into glucose if you don’t give your body carbs. Interesting, huh?
