Music can ease stress and depression during pregnancy

October 10, 2008 by Marijke Durning, RN

I’m not surprised by this finding. Are you? Researchers noticed that pregnant women who listened to music for a half hour every day over a two-week period had lower stress and depression than their peers who didn’t listen to music regularly.

I’m curious – how is this different from other studies that have shown that certain types of music have a calming effect. Are pregnant women really that different? Anyway, apparently this study was important enough to be published in the Journal of Clinical Nursing.
