My Amazing Blogging Space!

On nice days I like to work on the back patio.
Then I start thinking, well, a little ocean might be nice, so I move to the front of the house.
In a perfect world, my blogging space has views like these. However, in reality…
I blog in the spare bedroom, which frankly is not so offbeat. Or beautiful for that matter. That said, eventually I’ll build (or renovate) another house, and when I do, I’ll have a much nicer office. Hopefully with one of the views above
Excuse the dark – it was 3am and I didn’t want all the lights blaring.
Tell me about where you blog… An office, the couch, a room with a view?

I blog from a computer armoire (http://oneidiotstale.blogspot.com/2008/01/workspace.html) I set up in the front room of the the house I rent. I’m right next to a window, so I get lots of natural light, but privacy is an issue so I’ve covered the bottom half of the window with shutters. I live in a bit of a ghetto, so the view of the tenements across the street isn’t too inspiring.
When the weather is nice, though, I open the back door to let in air and from my chair I see a wee bit of greenery and hear birds chirping. This allows me to pretend that I’m still living in my house in the middle of nowhere enjoying a view exactly like the one in the first picture (only from the ground)… while blogging on a 28kbs connection.
@Raven Nice desk set-up, pretty tidy. I actually blog outside often, but, it was night so, I didn’t show the porch. I won’t live anywhere without a covered porch, because I hate not being able to work outside. It’s a good break from the office.
Fun tour, Jennifer! I really like the way you have designated your bookcases by frequency of use. That’s a really smart way of working!
Glad to see we are all in the same boat. Since my home started out as a one room school house in 1877, I’m kind of stuck with an awkward layout right now so between the kitchen/dining area and the living room area I blog from a computer armoire. I do have a trifold screen to block out the living room when people live in it.
Of course I’m a WAHM, and sometimes I have to work creatively with the two youngest at home when there is no preschool scheduled. But they will grow up and then I can grow too…hopefully out to the dream office I want build above the garage. LOL.
Heh heh, I was about to be very jealous and think I should be working for B5 instead of running my blogs myself.
I did just remodel my condo (where I blog most of the time), so I guess I can’t complain. I’ve got the dedicated office, Herman Miller chair, new lighting, lots of desk space and a dog that’s sitting on the back of my reading chair at the moment (yes, on the back, not in the seat which would be a normal spot for a 50-pound dog to sleep).
I’ve also blogged from the coffee shop down the street and various other “Internet Cafes” around Washington and Idaho. Probably the only off-beat place I’ve blogged is from a freeway rest stop that had wi-fi. Oh, and I did a post from a cruise ship in Hawaii before freaking out about how much Internet access costs on board.
I think if I had that balcony, that’s where I’d blog though.
I blog from my garden office. Naturally.

(Turn up the volume on your computer to hear the birdsong).
@Lindsay HA Funny. Actually, I used to live right off the beach, and really did have a view of tall trees and the ocean, it was awesome. But we moved
I’m moving back. The view was great for writing. I never write at coffee shops. I think I’d get distracted.
@Noreen Thanks, I talk about my office zones at Declutter It all the time – and they do help.
@Violette I hear it’s cool when the littles grow up and go to school. Since I homeschool I may have to wait for Cedar to leave for college.
Your house sounds cool though – old homes rule.
@Alex nice space. Sadly, it would not work for me, although, I’d like it. My son and I in there would crowded.
Jennifer:
The view from your deck would certainly improve my blog. If you have not done so already, you might talk about the impact of place on blog post quality.
As for me, I am a tennis enthusiast and when I worked in corporate America (uuggh!), I would fantasize about starting my days at the tennis court. On many days, that is now what I do. Each morning from the tennis court, I post to my blog and contribute to other blogs I follow. My good friend coaches my son and I take root on his courts. You can get a quick visual at one of my posts featuring Kofi my son’s coach,

Why crowded? I have my sons in there regularly and, so long as they have something to do, they’re perfectly happy. It’s just like any other room in the house.
hehe, love the cheat sheet. I go with before noon will be that exact time. After noon like 1600 subtract 1200 and you get your exact time.
Hope it helps. Or if someone says 8 p.m. add 12 to it and you get 2000.
Love the desk by the window. I blogged in my older son’s room the other day, sitting in the dining room chair and watched them play outside.
Is that twitter I see on your computer? hehe. I’m addicted too.
@Alex You blog FT in a shed with two boys in there with you? That, to me, seems crowded. 8 hours a day in a space like this, is too small a space for me.
@John The tennis court is a good place to blog, so long as you don’t get hit with a ball
It’s nice to be outside though (nice pic too).
@Eliza – Actually, a secret is I may be getting better at army time. And no pun intended, it’s about time. I’ve used it since 1996 or so. And yes that’s Twitter. Blame Deb. Or the blogger occupation
Oh, I hope to have those views someday too! This whole theme has been really interesting. Nice to see where all the great work comes from.
I blog from Brazil. I know, you are thinking there is a beach within view. Sorry, we are currently living in a small town in the south of country. Nothing too exciting. I’m at the kitchen table with my laptop usually sticking to my chair because it is 80 degrees in the apartment.
Another year and I’ll be back to a comfy home office set up.
ah, the blogger’s life… awake and puttering around at 3 am.
@Maricar I know. It’s actually 2 am as I type this – sigh.
