My humps, my humps…

Oh, Fergie… when will I ever learn to love “my humps”?

The truth is, I hate seeing my hips in the mirror.  In my mind’s eye, I’m tall and slender, not short and “hippy”.  And my tush… well… let’s just say that I don’t exactly adore that part of me, either.

It’s ironic to me that so many women LOVE their bodies.  And most of them aren’t “perfect” by society’s warped standard.  They just have tapped into some form of self-esteem and confidence that eludes me.

I think it’s time I checked out the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty site again.

Join me, won’t you?

(Maybe we should do another Breaking the Mirror “Love Your Body” contest?  This time in swimwear?  Or am I really off the deep end tonight?)

  1. I love Dove’s intention with the campaign – my only gripe is that Unilever, the makers of Dove, test on animals. I refuse to use it.

You know, it’s good to get to a place where society’s standards don’t mean squat – and, as surprising as it is – that’s actually a big place. We’re so pumped full of what society deems attractive and acceptable via TV, the Internet, movies, etc. that we don’t see anything, don’t believe anything, other than what we’re fed by those media and entertainment outlets. Yet, the real world is so very different.

God bless Queen Latifah and her Jenny Craig commercials! What is it she says? “I’m a size healthy,” or something like that?

I believe that beauty is in a state of mind. My body will not change from one day to the next; however, if my mood is “blue” I’ll be much more critical of my flaws than on a “normal” day. I applaud the Dove Campaign for reminding us women (and men) that beauty comes in every shape, size, color and age.

As an additional note, remember – you only get one body. So try to love and nurture it every day!
