My Most Memorable Quilting Workshop with Michael James

We gathered around tables in the basement of a church in Meredith, NH. There must have been about 25 ladies working on a project with Michael James as instructor. This was in the earlier days of his quilting (in the 1980s) when he came to central New Hampshire to offer his workshop.
I don’t recall exactly what we did, but Michael had us experimenting with color schemes and design planning, using colored pencils. (This was in the days before computer sketching and pattern design.)
“I thought we were going to make something,” one quilter remarked as we ate our brown bag lunches. “We’re just drawing designs.”
However, when we were finished that day, we knew a great deal more about color and design that we could translate into our own quiltmaking and got us thinking “outside the box.”
