Nature’s 50 Most Popular Science Blogs

Nature has unveiled their list of 50 popular science blogs by “working scientists” and although I’d argue that I certainly am “working” and should qualify as a “scientist,” Genetics and Health is not on the list. The blogs are listed based on their Technorati rank which would put me 10th on the list just between Effect Measure and Adventures in Ethics and Science (my Technorati rank is 7084). And as Ruth pointed out, I’m even on the Nature Genetics Free Asoociation blogroll. How could they have missed me? *sob*

I know I’m not the only one left off the list. Razib’s ScienceBlogs Gene Expression is there, but the original Gene Expression is not. And neither is grrlscientist’s Living the Scientific Life, which Tara pointed out.

Even if they’d like to categorize me as a “writer,” that list is forlornly short. Anyone want to go plead my case? ;)

In any case, I’m proud to be good enough to join in this week’s Tangled Bank #56 hosted by Brian C. Gray at e3 Information Overload.

Update: Bora at A Blog Around The Clock has a round-up of everyone’s reactions. I appear to be the biggest whiner. hehe

I tried not to whine at Effect Measure where the Reveres were kind enough to stick up for me and where Declan Butler took the time to explain that I made the top 10 of the science blogs by writers list.

Hon, you’re #1 in my book. Well, maybe #2 after PZ ;-)

What I really want to know is how does Tara do it all – top blogger, assistant prof, activist, AND mother of 2 small children.

  2. According to their stated methodology, I shouldn’t even be on the list, given that I haven’t been a working scientist in more than a decade. (Philosophy of science isn’t really the same thing.) They also omitted other “noted science bloggers”, so at least you’re in good company!

one can also argue on the validity of using technorati. since they were after popularity, perhaps stats such as unique visits might have been more telling…

  4. river2sea72: Thank you, friend! Tara is just the average supermom, isn’t she? Present company included. :)

Dr. Free-Ride: Thanks for stopping by, Janet! It’s so sweet of you to tolerate my whinging. :D

ruth: Shhh. My unique visits are secret. ;)

Oh yeah, I often wonder how you do it as well! But Tara – that girl must never sleep.

P.S. Nature’s list of top science blogs by writers is more than pitifully short, it’s just pitiful. Se my post on it here.

river2sea72 Woman, I was talking about you!!
