Nerves And Stress Have Me Distressed!

My heart beat is accelerated. My palms are a bit sweaty. Various body parts are tingling and a few even feel as if the nerve endings are completely outside of my body and dangling in the air.

Yes, I’m getting butterflies in my belly just thinking about it.

And no, “it” is not sex, you perves!

It’s nerves!

Today is the day we film the news special for my county’s NAMI affiliation support group, and aside from those nerves, I:

  • Still have no idea what I’m going to wear. The set for the In Focus special shows you from head to toe, so I can’t just pick out a nice shirt and throw on some jeans.
  • Still have no idea how I’m going to fix my hair. Wearing it straight tends to make my head look like Beaker’s on camera, so I’ll have to put the extra time into fluffing it up.
  • Still have no idea what I’m going to say! This poses the biggest problem, I know. I’m still new to NAMI, so I’m going to ask the West Virginia NAMI coordinator (whom I’ve asked to be there with me) to take on these questions. Hopefully the news lady will only sock me with questions about the NAMI support group I’ve started. That, I can handle.
  • Have some kind of cold/sinus issues going on. Stuffy and runny nose. Totally random sneezing attacks. Burning-then-watering-then-burning-again eyes. Voice sounds like I’m talking through my nose.

When I’m struck with a bought of stress, nervousness, or just work/life burn-out, I tend hop online to zone out for a while looking at funny/cute pictures and videos.

So, naturally I did some searching this morning and found a Squido article by a write who simply goes by alymi: Deal With Stress.

If you want to check it out, there are a collection of links that provide funny videos, funny pictures of cats and dogs (these tend to be my favorites), and funny monologues.

I haven’t viewed any of these yet – come on, it’s not even 7 a.m. here yet! – so I can’t recommend them. I can, however, promise I’ll pour over them as the time draws near.

What kinds of methods do you use to combat this kind of nervousness? Any pointers are appreciated!

Wish me luck!
