New Caregiver Website

I found a new caregiver’s website today that I thought I should share with you. First of all, I should warn you that it almost crashed my computer. Why do these big business’s have such do-dad rich content that it takes forever to load and bogs down my fairly new computer? I can’t imagine what it would do to someone’s desktop that had a few years on it.
So, back to the website. Medicare and Medicaid Services, has compiled a great site answering many questions that we caregivers may have about our parent’s healthcare. Mom often asks me to decipher her health forms, medicare paperwork and such. Believe me, I can wade through a lot of legalese, but some of the booklet and forms that she seems to get every other day in the mail, just boggle my mind.
I found the section on Caregiver’s Stories, to be especially poignant. Although I often feel isolated in my challenges, taking care of our parent’s needs along with our family’s, is much more prevelent than it seems. I think a lot of that stems from not feeling comfortable enough to vent when we need to.
Take a look at the this site today. You can find downloads to your parent’s coverage, answers for help with billing, navigation Medicare in general, If you are feeling overwhelmed and much more. Mom really likes it when I can go print out a form or pamphlet to give her more information to read.
The only thing more nerve wracking about mom’s medical care, is not knowing what is covered and what isn’t. Thanks, AARP for the head’s up about this useful site.

My husband does a lot of the caregiving for his 95-year-old mother. I’ve already sent him a link to the site — thanks! My MIL is actually OK, mentally, but is frail physically and can’t hear well. Not only that, but she owns property. Well, who do you think manages it? Not someone who can’t hear, that’s for sure…
I know this involves caregiving for a sibling, but check out this great book, That Went Well: Adventures in Caring for My Sister. It’s not just for brothers and sisters of people with special needs. This book is for everyone of every age. It warmed my heart.
Oops! I provided a wrong link — I’m so sorry. Here’s the one you need for the book. Try this one…:

I wanted to thank you for that super link to the new book. I went to the blog and it was fabulous! I could relate to so much that was written there. I think that there is a unique relationship between a caregiver and an adult-being-cared-for, that really can not be put into one box. I am still deep in the commiseration stage, and really found some humorous things there. High five!
Warmly,
Amy
I am so glad you liked it! It’s really great — I’m planning to get the book for my husband’s sister (she’ll really like it, as she does even more than my husband does) for her birthday, which is coming up.
