New Genetics Blog: Epigenetics News

Genetics blogging started off on a good note this morning when I received an e-mail from Trevor Covert of Epigenetics News.

I have been a reader of Genetics and Health for quite awhile and enjoy all of the information and relevant issues that it brings to discussions around the break room at our lab.

Thank you so much, Trevor! *blush*

There’s no better time for a new blog like Epigenetics News to launch. We talk a lot about finding mutations/changes in the DNA sequence of genes, but a lot of other processes surrounding DNA regulate gene expression. With new genomic technology, we’re finally able to study how factors external to DNA interact with the genome.

From Wikipedia:

Epigenetics is the study of reversible heritable changes in gene function that occur without a change in the sequence of nuclear DNA. It is also the study of the processes involved in the unfolding development of an organism.

If you’re interested in broadening your view of genetics, visit Epigenetics News. For an example of epigenetics, see Mother’s Diet Influences Gene Function in Offspring.
