New Guide to Yorkshire Terriers

Yorkies are completely adorable dogs that are a pleasure to take care of. I’ve only had the company of Yorkshire Terriers while working at a kennel/animal hospital, but these cuties were some of the best behaved of the all many breeds I encountered. They do love attention and need plenty of grooming. As always, it’s best to do your research before making the commitment to add a Yorkie (or any breed) to your family.

The second edition of The Complete Idiot’s Guide® to Yorkshire Terriers by dog trainer Liz Palika was just released a few weeks ago, and it’s worth checking out the next time you’re sipping coffee at your favorite bookstore. Or just be lazy and order it online!
In the new book, Palika, a certified behavioral consultant, includes an expanded section on house-training Yorkies, as well as tips on managing a Yorkie’s nutritional needs. The book provides guidance on finding a reputable breeder, and advice on adopting a Yorkie rescue.
Palika also cues you in on how to acclimate a new Yorkie to the home and how to understand Yorkie-specific behavior. In addition, the author educates you on health problems common to Yorkies, as well as providing a history of the breed.
Are you considering adding a Yorkie to your family?
