New Poll: Where Does Your Money Go?

April 17, 2008 by Farley

Now that I’m planning on getting serious about saving, a real budget is on order.  How else will I ever be able to stop renting?  Looking back over my past spending habits, it becomes blatantly obvious that one area of interest takes up the majority of my extra money.  Now I’m curious to see how others spend theirs.

I chose wine, but month to month it would be a toss up between wine and eating out…it’s just the one wine trip a year that pushes wine over the edge!

I spend next to nothing in any of the other categories…the last time I bought an article of clothing was over a year ago and even then it was just one shirt!

I am the same. Dining out every week, sometimes more. Everything else not so much, but art once a year when I go home to my favorite gallery of folk artists.

  3. Hey Farley
Dining out was a close second for me as well. We do cook in a lot and try to really eat out one expensive meal a week. Also a close second was outdoor activities. With all the sports I do, bikes, skis, climbing gear and all the associated stuff that goes along with it adds up. Wine is just the thing that I have a weekly budget allowance for so that is why it was my top vote.
    cheers

I chose Dining Out though I spend a fair share on wine, books and DVDs too. I have actually just started working with a financial adviser, helping mainly for retirement planning. I know I should be saving more than I do now.

I used to get most of my wines by trade! Now that has changed since I am doing more int’l wines. But Eating out is still the majority of my spending; I always have a couple of BTG selections to try new things and start with a cocktail! Yikes.

I wish I spent more on dining out. I’m finding myself less excited about cooking these days. Maybe because the kitchen is always a mess due to it.

Tonight we’re going to a really good restaurant: Garabaldi’s in Oakland. And I have a long list of others I want to try….
