New York City Ballet Workout

Since it has been bitterly cold this week, I have not dared to venture outside long enough to get in a decent run. I turned to my old standby the New York City Ballet Workout; Volume 1. Good gravy, I am still hurting. If you have never taken dance it might not be for you because it does require some basic understanding of positions and posture. It is however, the most amazing toning and strengthening workout I have ever tried. You can definitely feel the burn. In fact it’s more of a 3-alarm fire going on. It works all these little muscles in my hips, butt and lower abs that I forgot I had. I would recommend it for someone who’s not looking to lose a ton of weight but would like to tone significantly and lose an inch or two in places.
I would like to try the Volume Two but I really need to get back into shape before I even attempt it. Whenever I try to get back to a workout schedule my body really needs to take it slow the first week or so. My normal inclination is to just get into it while I have the motivation and workout every single day. This approach just guarantees that I will burn out quickly. If I instead work up to an everyday workout over the course of a few weeks, I find it much easier to stick with in the long run. Considering I haven’t actually worked out since a week before I found out I was pregnant, I’m taking it slowly. My mid-section is in serious need of repair. So at least I did something this week*patting myself on the back*. Next time we “talk” hopefully I will have gotten in three to four good workout sessions. Wish me fortitude.

My sister is a workout goddess; specifically, a yoga goddess. Works. out. every. day.
I vividly remember the day she got the NYC Ballet Workout. She was instantly obsessed. I tried to do some portion of the ab section and didn’t last two minutes. WTF were they doing with their legs??
Im trying to get back on the saddle though (did yoga this morning!) and I think slow and steady wins the race, just like you say. I’ll definitely be looking up this DVD on Amazon. I’ve had no dance experience (and can’t do any dance beyond a little hip swinging two step shuffle), but I’m not going to let that stop me!
Thanks for the post!
My friend who is already skinny alreday loves the definition she sees when sticking to this workout.
