“First we will wish to be reasonably certain we are on the A.A. beam.”
Here’s a reasonably decent idea – have the other eight worked before you begin revealing the worst…
“After taking this preliminary trial at making amends, we may enjoy such a sense of relief that we conclude our task is finished. We will want to rest on our laurels.”
Ooooooh nooooo – not a good idea!
“Let’s not talk prudence while practicing evasion.”
Exactly…
“It does not lighten our burden when we make the crosses of others heavier.”
We’ve stopped harming others…
“The readiness to take the full consequences of our past acts, and to take responsibility for the well-being of others at the same time, is the very spirit of Step Nine.”
Alcohol didn’t “do it to me.” I volunteered. I offered it an invitation. I welcomed it and the damage it created when I used it. I am accountable.
The time will come when, having accounted for what I’d done, the God I understand will forgive me. And that forgiveness is more important, to me, than any other type.
