You want to give your mom the Hope diamond, a luxury car and a yacht for Mother’s Day. Unfortunately, you only have enough cash saved up to buy a glass ring, a matchbox car and a rubber ducky. What do you do when you just don’t have money to buy mom the gift she deserves? It may sound trite, but most moms would love the gift of time. Your time. Yes, I know that time itself can’t be wrapped, but you can use your time to create a gift that can be wrapped. Here are a few ideas for free Mother’s Day gifts to get you started:

- Write a letter that tells her what she means to you. (If you’re artistic, a poem or song would work, too.
- A beautiful river rock, a permanent marker and a few coats of varnish are all you need to create a great personalized paper weight.
- Create a charm bracelet from found objects that mean something to you and your mom. (A beautiful seashell with a hole in it to remind you of the beach vacation the two of you went on, the tire from a match box car you used to roll around on the kitchen table.)
Do you have any ideas for free or low cost Mother’s Day gifts?

It really depends on the type of person your mom is? If she movie lover, you could get her a netflix subscription for at least $5 a month. If time with family is very important to her then a family outing would be good. There are so many low cost or free gifts you could get for mother’s day.
At this time of year, at least in the South, flowers are blooming like crazy. We are taking my boyfriend’s parent to lunch for mother’s day, but I’m also planning a beautiful (but free) bouquet of flowers from my dad’s yard which is blooming with roses, peonies, iris & wildflowers. My own mom passed away 10 years ago – so treasure your moms while you have them & do SOMETHING to show your love, even if it has to be free or low cost – it IS the thought that counts (though if you can afford more, don’t be cheap – go for it!)
