Noodles and Rice Mystery competition
As promised yesterday, here we have another little competition to wet your appetite for all things noodles and rice.
Entry is simple and quick. All you have to do is identify the item in the photograph by leaving a comment below. The first correct entry wins, and my preference will go to the most accurate response (ie. the first to come up with the most correct identification).
The prize is a packet of the item you are identifying, along with translated instructions for what to do with it. The prize will be posted to the winner when the competition closes in one week.
Good luck and lets see what we come up with.

That is a concentrated curry cube. You melt that down with some boiling water, toss in some roughly cut potatoes/onions/carrots/meat (I like chicken), simmer all together until it’s nice and thick and yummy, and enjoy with fresh steamed rice.
Is that what it is? I’ve seen shiny red square packages that people have told me are “basically curry-flavored bullion”, but when I encounter it on shop shelves I’m always slightly more afraid than curious.
“Curry-flavored bullion” is another way to describe them. When I use them, all I add is water and veggies and meat that I like and boil until the sauce reaches my desired thickness. It’s nothing to be afraid of and actually makes for a very easy but tasty meal. If I use chicken, I like to brown the skin just a little before throwing them in the pot to cook the rest of the way just to add a little extra dimension of flavor. But if I’m feeling lazy, I just throw everything in and let it simmer while the rice cooks.
I thought it was a miso boullion cube, but the other entrants have me convinced they are right.
