Harvest Quilting Themes
Do you have favorite quilting themes? Do you have a favorite time of year that seems to be reflected in your quilting and fabric art?
My daughter has a fascination with leaves that subconsciously comes through in her quilting and fabric art design. Also, many of these are in autumn colors and portray falling leaves.
This time of year, themes surrounding harvest and Thanksgiving are popular in the items you make. Perhaps they have pumpkin accents, colorful leaves, bowls of fruit or harvest time vegetables.
Do you depict scenes of family gatherings, bringing in harvest from the fields, the first Thanksgiving, your family at Thanksgiving dinner, autumn scenery? You may design these on placemats, table cloths, bed quilts, wall hangings, fabric postcards and more.
Perhaps you’re involved in mixed media and play with autumn colors there.
Share with us your November and harvest theme projects.

For me “fall colors” bring to mind leaves and harvest fruits. Each season also has its smells.
Yesterday I lit a spicy scented candle and it smelled so luscious – so fall. I know I wouldn’t have enjoyed it so much in the middle of summer.
Interesting how our senses influence us and our design decisions …
While I haven’t done any quilting or patchwork in an age, I find myself strongly drawn to spring and summer colours in most things I create. It’s interesting to see the patterns we come up with again & again. Great topic.
Our senses and our likes and dislikes of color often influence the color schemes we select for our projects. I enjoy the fall colors out of doors (and ours were brilliant this year), but wouldn’t wear them. However, when I made quilts for others often customers selected colors I wouldn’t choose for myself…yet they looked lovely in the art work.
Heather, do you choose the spring and summer colors for your wardrobe? As I mentioned above, I often find we choose for our quilting and art projects colors we like to wear and look good in.. (I’ve been trained in color analysis for make-up and wardrobes and found it carrying over into household interiors for my clients.)
Lol, yes. Right now I’m wearing an almost periwinkle purple/blue, which just happens to be a colour people always comment looks good on me. I think I agree with you.
