Obesity on the rise in North Carolina

The number of obese people in North Carolina is increasing every year.  According to a study by Trust for America’s Health, a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C, approximately 24 percent of North Carolinians are obese.  Just check out these numbers

  • North Carolina ranks 16th out of 50 states for the number of obese adults
  • More than 61 percent of north carolinians are obese or overweight
  • 40 percent of the children in the age group of 12 to 18 are overweight and 15 percent of the children under the age of 12 are overweight

Obesity leads to serious problems like diabetes and heart complications.  A number of initiatives are being undertaken to encourage healthy eating habits and shed extra weight.
