Office Health Hazzards

Think your office could be making you sick? You might be right! One source says offices are often a place for bad air. Things like copiers and printers “are well known sources of certain types of very small particles that can be extremely irritating to the eyes, nose and upper respiratory system.”

New carpets and chairs can also cause irritation to the eyes and breathing as well. If you find that you’ve had a stuffed up head and watery eyes for awhile, pay attention to when the situation worsens. If it gets better when you’re at home, specifically on a weekend or vacation, your office may be making you physically ill. If you’re able to, one way to try and combat this is to take “fresh air breaks” (where you pop outside for a few minutes to clear your lungs) or bring a portable air freshener in your cubicle or office space. In other words, it’s difficult to correct if you’re in an office, because everyone reacts differently and there isn’t a lot that companies can (or will) do.
