oh, the agony of the feet…

Around my seventh month of pregnancy, my doctor got a very good picture of my son’s feet on the sonogram. He started to laugh, when he measured them.

You see, my unborn son had feet whose length were just a centimeter shy of the diameter of a tennis ball. Those unborn feet were murder on my ribcage: they liked to dig in and hang out there, used my various organs for a workout, and knocked the stuffing out of me on a regular basis.

You know how mothers coo over tiny socks and itty bitty baby toes? Well, my kid’s feet were no mere amuse bouche. His toes were definitely a Happy Meal.

He teeters on the verge of double wide feet; when he was a toddler, they were almost as wide as they were long. Course, with that much square inch-age on the ground, he was stable as a rock when it came to walking and running. Now, he falls down on purpose.

All of this to say, I laughed out loud when I read this comic yesterday, and I hope the author of Speedbump will let me print it here with full props and a link back to the site:
