Old Magazines Can Be Wealth of Info

Crafts sometimes go out of style. Remember those macramé owls? Or how corn husk dolls? Well the other day I was at a rummage sale, and spotted a “free” box with an old copy of Better Homes and Garden Needlework and Craft Ideas from 1982. I couldn’t resist it.

As I paged through the issue, I was amazed at how different the craft projects were back then. All the sweaters had the high collars of the 80s, and the pictures looked like something from a completely different time. It was fun to look through, but then I spotted a crocheted afghan pattern that I hadn’t seen in ages. I’d actually been looking for something similar for a long time, so it was nice to get a free pattern out of the deal, even if I didn’t make anything else from the book.
There were also a lot of paper crafts (all “pre” scrapbooking type of projects) that were very creative and unique. It helped spur a lot of ideas for new projects to make. So even though I won’t be using every pattern in the magazine, I felt that browsing through the old issue was definitely worth it. Just goes to show that even old creative magazines can be a great source of crafting information.
