OMFG Is it really that big a deal?

I’ve never watched the show before, but I’ve got my television autotuned for tonight’s episode. I guess you could say the promos are working.
The curious blogger in me is curious to tune in while the parent in me wants to sit with remote in hand and a severe case of nervous twitches to avoid having my kids be subjected to one of these ads.
I saw a spokesperson in an interview that said it could mean “O My Friggin’ Gosh.”
I’d like to ask, WTF planet is he from?
In all honesty, I think kids are hearing MUCH worse on the playground with their third grade classmates these days. The best we can do is encourage our kids, teach them properly and let them know just how inappropriate some words and their use can be.
What about you? Do you think I am off base here? Are these promo’s too racy for television? Or is it just par for the times?

I have to admit that I was surprised to see the acronym on the ad. The CW is trying to get attention and it looks like they have succeeded. I also have to say that I think the ad is appropriate to the content of the show (as the characters in the show are always texting one another in this manner).
It’s no big deal to me, but I’m probably not a good gauge, as I’m always getting shit from my husband and sister for my potty mouth.
Well, I do get tired of trying to ‘explain’ stuff that is on tv….non kid friendly stuff is all over the place…and yes they learn worse in the playground..but do we need it on tv?
Oliver, My Fanny is Grotesque?
by the way…My kids get soap for OMFG..I don;t care WHAT they think it means.
It’s O.k…I Use earth-friendly soaps.
Shitballs. This scares me. What show is this? Please do a follow up to let us know what it entails. I’m dying to know!
I think this is out of line and they are definitely trying to get some ratings. Yes, they hear worse at school, but honestly, I’m tired of trying to filter everything. It’s getting so out of hand.
Some of the stuff that comes on primetime leaves me reeling. We have lost any sense of standards.
I don’t understand.. where are all those people that threw a fit after the Janet Jackson/superbowl thingy? Did that just wear them out? One episode of SVU disturbs me much worse than a flash of boob.
You’re right Ashley. We have become desensitized to a lot. We’ve seen so much that we don’t even say much of anything anymore. And they’re going to continue doing it until they’re boycotted or a big enough fuss is made.
I agree there’s a lot of stuff on television I don’t think should be there or should be on much later at night. My kids aren’t allowed to cuss – use friggin or anything close to it.
I told them when they are living outside my house, that’s fine, but even when visiting – they will not use such words.
I am learning that I should keep my mouth shut when the kids want to watch cartoons
And NOT Family Guy or Simpsons
Yep. They can watch cartoons as many years as they want. We certainly don’t turn on The Simpsons, Family Guy, or any of that stuff either. We also don’t watch shows adult content around them. I realize you can’t sensor everything, but standards sure are changing.
One of the benefits to not having a TV (and please don’t flame me for a year – I really don’t care if other people have a TV or not.) is that I don’t have to have these arguments. Granted, my kids are 7 and 6, so they are in bed with lights out by no later than 8pm, so a lot of this wouldn’t come up anyway. But of all the 128 things we find to argue about, at least I can take TV content off the list. Now if I could find a cure for the he-took-my-legos problem…
Mine go to bed around 8 too. But it’s ridiculous what they show at that time – even on commercials. When I was little I remember watching ‘Cheers’ with my parents, and I remember them glancing at each other like ‘Should we turn it?” and I would have no idea what was being discussed because the racy content was at least in the form of inuendos instead of being acted out for my little eyes.
Also, this is not an issue of tv: bad or good. It’s about common decency, or our lack thereof.
