Charlie playing flag football?
In Pennsylvania, Bob Wargo runs a flag football program for special needs kids, each of whom is paired with a high school football player, as noted in today’s Phillyburbs.
Well, Charlie is getting a strong set of shoulders and earlier today we went for a walk up a long and steep hill; he ran in front (yes, ran), bent over horizontal and going full speed ahead……….

For the past two seasons, I’ve accompanied one of the boys I work with to this football program, and I must say, it has been an excellent experience. The coaches are great, and the high school football players do a very nice job with the kids who come. The boy I go with, while he still doesn’t really understand the game, went from hating it last year, to having fun, at least most of the time. His buddy will graduate this year, but I’m sure next year, he’ll have another great guy to help him.
On another note, I didn’t notice it in the article, the Milligans run a great group called Top Sports, which runs sports activities (bowling, and soccer that I know of) for special needs kids.
I’m wondering though why this in the Intelligencer, and not the Courier Times. The area that this program takes place in, the people mentioned, we don’t get the Intelligencer. I’m sure some people who come do get it, but it seems odd since this is in Courier Times territory.
That would be brilliant for us. Boo lacks the co-ordination for ball sports but could really use some exercise and hard work at that. He is getting very strong, but is not at all fun to go on a walk with. We were in the Wicklow mountains yesterday having forced him out of the house with a can of coke and he got us back by dragging his feet through every muddy puddle. Then he lay on the ground and refused to go any further; unfortunately some other hill walkers had got into trouble so there just happened to be a helicopter hovering over the national park, which kept hovering over Boo as he lay there and we pretended to walk away. It didnt make the whole “ignore it” thing very easy!

I wanted to say, “Go Charlie!” but I should qualify that I mean I think exercise is excellent.
He certainly has the build to play defense!
Matty would love that. What a neat idea!
