On “great accomplishments”

A comment left on the Washington Post’s July 15th article about William Lash III said:

did anyone wonder what it was like for this man with such great accomplishments to have an Austic son [sic] (Mina Schoenheit, MA Portland, Oregon)

I find this comment very painful to read.

Being the mother of my nine-year-old autistic son Charlie is and will be my great—my greatest—accomplishment.

    Okay, WHAT?!?!?

The guy had a kid. I’d count that among his accomplishments, regardless of diagnosis.

  2. Julia says:

Hey, I have a kid weirder than I am.

That is quite an accomplishment! :)

I’m pretty darn proud of myself for that one. Sam’s great.

  3. Having my lovely kid and our life with him—-best thing I’m sure to do.
