One Week Update

The first week has gone pretty well. I had a few days of wild sweets cravings, but it wasn’t a terribly big deal. Especially since I ate a lot of candy. Vegan candy, of course. My favorite vegan candies so far: spice drops, Swedish fish, and Lemonheads.
So yes, I’ve been depending on a lot of ‘transition foods’ this week, which I supposed eased the…well, transition. My diet consisted mostly of beans, peanut butter, soy burgers, veggie tacos, and candy. Okay, and french fries. I KNOW, I KNOW. I must eat healthier. It did not escape my attention that I only ate two vegetables this week.
But, that’s okay. Since it was a major change all at once, just achieving the purely ‘vegan’ diet was an accomplishment. Now I can concentrate on refining it until it gets healthier and healthier. My goal for this week is to have my main diet consist of rice, beans, and vegetables.
An appeal to the chef types: it would be so much easier to eat vegetables if I could flavor them the same way that Chinese and Japanese restaurants serve them. I love eating vegetables then, but can’t afford to get take-out often. I’m desperate to find a sauce to cook with that is like the Chinese ‘brown sauce’ and the Japanese ‘teriyaki’ sauce. I tried the generic brands, and even the fancy brands from the ‘Asian’ section of the health food store, but they all taste salty and nasty. Absolutely NOTHING like what I’m looking for. Especially the teriyaki…where is that lovely sweet sauce the restaurants serve? Why is every sauce I buy so salty and icky? Please help!
I’m not sure if my weight changed (I’m weighing myself tomorrow and will report) but I did walk around the house naked for the first time in quite a while. I don’t know if I’m necessarily any buffer, or if veganism is somehow making me more comfortable in my own skin, or if it means anything at all…but I did say I would tell all.
Thanks for listening, and here’s looking forward to an even better second week.
