Ontario will help young people with diabetes by funding their insulin pumps, it was announced in the budget yesterday. The cost of $6,000 for insulin pumps and $2,400 for administering it, will be borne by the government. The estimated cost would be $12 million in 2006-07 growing to $30 million by 2008-09. The move is part of the $1.9 billion increase in health care spending and Ontario is the first province in Canada to fund insulin pumps.
