Open Marriage:Are You Like Bob & Carol, Ted & Alice?

I remember, back in the seventies, there was a movie , Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice.. The movie had four main characters, Bob & Carol, Ted & Alice were their names. They were two couples. In the movie posters, newspaper advertisements & even publications from Life to Mad Magazine they were pictured in bed next to each other.
That is my visual of open marriage. Two swinging married couples who were sexually related and connected.
No thanks, sometimes just friendship between two couples gets sticky enough. (pun intended)
As I was brought up and still believe and am very committed to, marriage is a covenant, contract relationship between one man & one woman, for the rest of their lives. I have absolutely no desire to sleep with any of our friends’ wives. I’m sure Marye doesn’t have any desire to sleep with any of our friends’s husbands.
Marriage is complicated enough with the issues each of us bring into a marriage. I don’t need to bring another couple’s emotional baggage into our marriage bed. Though “variety is the spice of life” as the saying goes, not in my marriage. God did not intend it that way, nor does the culture I grew up in.
What are your thoughts.

I have to agree with you. My friends have tried the “open marraige’ thing… all I saw out of it was pain. Here, not even an option…..
I would love to get a post by someone who has truly done open marriage..In fact having a post by someone who did and hated it and someone who does (long term..ie:more than 3 to 5 years) it and it is working would be cool.
