Ortega Law Passed

The Ortega Law Passed October 3, sending shockwaves across the world. Bill 3217, also known as the Ortega Law, is the “baby” of UNICEF, the US DOS, The Hague Conference and President Oscar Berger and his wife Wendy. When it was originally proposed it had a grandfather clause, stating that all adoptions in progress would be grandfathered through, thus the reason we felt comfortable proceeding with a Guatemala adoption.

One very interesting item to note is that if Guatemala goes through with this Law they will recieve 28 million dollars from UNICEF. “UNICEF is using the money of the taxpayers of the First World to eliminate poverty in our Third World country, by eliminating the children of the poor, because as the UNICEF delegate said: the underdevelopment of a country begins in the uterus of a poor woman.”

UNICEF is pushing hard for Guatemala to regulate adoption cases…to ride adoption of kidnapping, baby swapping, abuse, and ultimately reform the system. By reforming the system though, are we simply going the orphanage route? Because we all know what good that did in Romania and Russia.

I can certainly understand WHY UNICEF wants to help but can’t it be done after these children, who have been matched and promised to families, come home?
