Packing Away Those Summer Clothes

It really is about that time.  Amazing! I am sitting in the office typing and the ceiling fans going and I am almost..not quite but almost…chilly.  It is getting darker quicker too… Matt has to hurry now, after dinner to get the milking done and the chickens put up while we still have some light.

Not too long from now it will be time to put up summer clothes, wash them and pack them away until next ..uh…February.  I live in Texas remember.

If you want your clothes to stay fresh smelling and free of bugs and moths then try these tricks.

Wash the clothes.  Put about 6 drops of rosemary and 6 of lavender essential oils on a cotton ball and toss in the dryer (or if you hang your clothes, add it to the rinse water).

Get whole rosemary sprigs and place them in muslin bags.  You can make these up fast, or use old socks.  If you have access to lavender then you can use that too.

When they are dry fold them and put them in the container in layers.   Place the muslin bags with rosemary between each layer.  Bugs hate it.

If you don’t have access to fresh herbs then get rosemary and lavender essential oils.  Buy the rosemary (not ground) and the lavender buds.  Place them in individual ziplocs and add a few drops of the corresponding essential oil to each.  Set aside for a few days tightly sealed.  Use this in place of the fresh herbs.

Doing this will help keep the clothes not only fresh and bug free but free of mildew as well.

  1. I always add the lavender to my laundry, but I never thought of the rosemary. What a great idea! Thanks!
