March 25, 2008 by Marijke Durning, RN

We’ve heard of men who experience pregnancy symptoms, but now there’s a study that says that men may also feel their wife’s pain if she has cancer.

In a study of 168 married couples where one partner had either breast cancer or prostate cancer, published in April issue of the Annals of Behavioral Medicine, researchers found that the strongest partner effect was on men when their wife had breast cancer. In these cases, the husband would have more symptoms if the wife was having a difficult time than the other way around.
